week 9 update

Is week 9 now, still have about 5 weeks then is our final already..wuu><
Lets update about what had learn tis week...

TUTORIAL QUESTION:
Q1: Define Cyberimperialism vs cultural imperialism.
cultural imperialism- a core nation that is stronger than other country in economic and political, which spread their ideas to the weaker nation. It happen when people think that they are more develop,so they tend to follow them such ad adopted their value.
eg. Someone think that if they married to American, they are more higher status and superior than others.(the one follow their culture, value and fashion until forget about their own culture)

cyberimperialism- is mean that people using internet as their tools to reach imperialism. Knowledge is the power in cyberimperialism, knowledge here is mean internet(knowledge of technology), when people have the power and knowledge, they able to create inequality because they able to control the cyber world.

* they able to control the cyber is because of they have the technology first, and they have the better equipment and speed than others.

Q2: Explain with examples how core nations achieved cyber imperialism?
Core nation dominate peripheral nations because all nation must expand their influence to avoid decline and peripheral nations simply must remain at an increasing disadvantages in term of power. The purpose of them to do so is to avoid people forget about their culture.

Q3: What is hegemonic discourse imperialism on the Net?
Hegemonic discourse imperialism mean that that the core nation using internet to create imperialism by the way you look at the world. Eg. you go to internet and tell people about your version of story, you just tell your side story but did not tell full version of the story. It is inequality because people is just know one side of story but do not know others side, so the judgement they give is just based on one side.

Q4: Discuss how core nations achieve Pericentric imperialism?
Pericentric imperialism is equal to economic imperialism.Peripheral nations are dominated due to classes within their borders who find profit in collaborating with the core powers of other nations. It mean that the core nation is using the sources in the peripheral nation to selling back to them(peripheral nation) in a higher price.
Eg. petrol-they extract the oil and sell back the petrol to us in double price(because we do not have the technology, do not have access and not understand about the things while they can get a lot of information about it by using internet)

ok...DONE=)

week 7

The tutorial question for week-7:
Q1:Why is pornography the major theme on the Internet?
Q2:Discuss the purpose of social activitism and movements with relevant examples.
Q3: Why is violence equivalent to a virus? and discuss the types of violence that can be found on the Internet.
Q4: States the psychological features specific to the Internet..

The assignment question:
Assignment 3: The Internet is a place where hate groups come to inhabit. Discuss with relevant examples.
Assignment 4: Is web content protected by copyright laws or can it be considered as public domain information?
Assignment 5: "Criminals are drawn to the Internet because the cloak of cyberspace is virtually impenetrable". Discuss the statement.

Well...now talk about the question one.
Why pornography had become the major theme on the internet? It is because there are many channel available on cyber world for people to view it and it is the biggest business in internet. People like to view it online in stead of buying DVD or VCD is because it is free if they view it online. Besides, since they view it online, no people can recognize them and they can view it as much as they want.

the purpose of social activism and movement is :
1~ representation-eg. woman organization, they represent women and they voice out their opinion to let others know are they thinking.
2~information distribution-to spread some information,eg. some organization tell men that they can also get breast cancer but not only women will get it.
3~research- allow people to do research,eg. to get people opinion about NO SMOKING campaign.
4~cultural production-is something that about cultural thing in a country,eg. people is always think that Indian's status is lower than Malay and Chinese people, so they are some organization will come out and they that actually is not.
5~lobbying-is that the group of people want to maintain the relationship with government in order to change the policy,eg. Environmentalist maintain the relationship with government so that they can influence the policy (to set the rules that Saturday as the no plastic bag day)
6~collaboration-is something like some group of people cooperate to get some result that benefit they all,eg. political party they have many subgroup actually, during the election, they all will come together to get the vote from public.
7~ direct action- is mean to get something done,eg. they want Malaysian to stop smoking.
8~solidarity- mean that the people they all have the same interest,so they join together for the same purpose.
9~ fundraising- is to get money,eg. World Vision having some activity to ask people to donate to the people who need help.
10~tactical communication- to communicate with people through campaign,eg. A Malaysian being jail in Singapore for whole life, some Non Government Organization try to help him, so they ask more people to sign so as the evidence that many people is supporting him while the NGO is going to talk to the Singapore government.

violence equal to virus is because they both are dangerous and they will change from time to time, example like their tactics will change.
type of violence:
a~ group induced violence- happen because of the diffusion of responsibility, mean like when more people, people can't able to recognize all of them,so they maybe can escape of the responsibility.
b~ bullying-the feeling of want to control others
c~racial by motivated or religious violence-mean the violent happened caused by the recial or religious problems.
d~entrepreneurial violence- the people not really want to harm others but they just wan to get money.
e~relational violence- the purpose of them is to gain power and it is usually happen between boys and girls.
f~predatory violence-their goal is o violence you, they do so is just want to let u suffer.
g~terrorism- it is designed to make political change such as you want to change government by using booming, poisoning and etc.
**a-e and g is use violence to achieve their goals while f is their goal is to violence you

The psychological features specific on the Internet is:
1. identity is flexible~ can use fake identity
2.equalization status~people do not care how do look like, what is your race.....
3.transcends spatial boundaries~no boundaries,Uk or Malaysia is also same
4. access almost any part of the Internet~can get news in Indonesia even you are in Malaysia
5.loose self-boundaries-nobody look at you,so you can behave like a monkey on Internet.
6.lessening of inhibitions due to lack of physical contact and absence of physical and communication cues~you can chat with a person online for long time but still lack of the feeling of chatting
7.change their identity and virtual appearance~ since no one knowing you,you can just use others information as yours own and also can change your own out look.
8.base the community on anonymity and trust~people online built their community based on trust while in physical world community is based on experience and communicate with others.

And especially thank to wai hsun, because he just keep explain to us about all those things and after class,he had sent 1 copy note that he found online to our mail box so that we can more understand about the certain topic.

After this tutorial, i had more clear about troll. During the lecture, i just drop down some extra note about troll but actually i didn't really understand it, after this tutorial i have a clearer picture about it lah~
Troll is also 1 kind of deception, something like people post some unnecessary thing online.

And also the Netiquette as well. Since they have 10 criteria about in, some of it i am still blur, but after the tutorial, after the discussion, its help a lot.

Advantages and disadvantages of social networking

Social networking is a network that allow people to express their feeling, thought and also what ever that they want to share to others. It is work based on certain structure which is include having profile, friends, blog posts and it is usually have their own unique to attract others to join them. Nowadays, there are many social network sites (SNSs) being create such as Facebook, Twitter, Plurk and etc.

Well, since everyone is like to using those social networking, lets discuss about is it good or bad to using the social networking. Lets start with the advantage first.

Social networking is used as a tools to make new friends and communicate with other. It is very convenience for user to communicate and it save a lot of time. Since everyone is busy for their own study or work, they are seldom has the opportunity to met each other face to face, but those social networking now is helping us to keep in touch with our friends and we can always know their recent life while we are reading their status and photo updates. Besides, it helps us make new friends easily by just press a key and chat with them.

In addition, SNSs work as a platform for user to promote their business for free. User can write down their information on the sites, and upload some photo to show their product (as an example).

Others advantages include:

- -To get job (people show their company and hiring information on page)

- -To pass time

- - To release stress

- -etc………

Next, I gonna talk about the disadvantage of social networking.

Since everybody like to using SNSs, so among the users, they must involve some bad guy. Those people will steal others information include their photo to create a new account to doing something bad. This will bring a very bad consequence to the users (original one), such as damage his/her image.

On the other hand, while users are too rely on the SNSs, their social skill will be diminish. Since they like to use social networking to communicate, they might prefer it as their primary communication tool and next, lack of face to face conversation will happen and at the end, their social skill being diminish.

Others disadvantages are:

- -No privacy

- - Addicted on it

- - Killing traditional/ formal language

- - Etc….

As a conclusion, social networking has both advantages and disadvantages and it is all depend on how the user used it, if users use it wisely it should be alright. So, everyone should think before they do anything and responsible for what they had do.
